Dormant failure

A dormant failure is a failure in an inactive subsystem that does not currently need to be active due to redundancy.

A dormant or latent failure is a failure that does not influence function during normal operation when it occurs by itself. It is often a compensation response, control function or warning sign that should be performed when required but is not available.
